A-Level Biology Tutor

A-Level Biology has more content than any other A-Level science, and the exams test it in the hardest possible way: through unfamiliar contexts, experimental data, statistical analysis and extended-writing questions that must be both precise and complete. Students who were comfortable at GCSE often find their first A-Level biology paper full of questions that “we never did in class” — because the exam is testing application, not recall.

Mr. Ahmad’s A-Level Biology lessons teach the content as connected mechanisms, teach the data and statistics skills as core content, and practise every style of question the student’s board uses, including the AQA essay and the OCR and Edexcel extended-response questions. Because he also teaches maths, the calculations and statistical tests that many biology students dread are handled confidently.

• Biological molecules and cells — carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, enzymes, nucleic acids, cell structure and ultrastructure, membranes and transport, cell division
• Exchange and transport — surface area to volume, gas exchange, digestion and absorption, mass transport in animals and plants, the heart and haemoglobin
• Genetics, variation and evolution — DNA and protein synthesis, mutations, meiosis, inheritance and chi-squared, populations and Hardy-Weinberg, selection and speciation, classification
• Energy transfers — photosynthesis, respiration, energy and ecosystems, nutrient cycles
• Responding to change and control — nervous coordination, muscles, homeostasis, hormones, kidneys, plant responses
• Gene expression and technology — gene regulation, epigenetics, cancer, recombinant DNA technology, gene therapy, PCR, sequencing, and the practical and statistical skills examined across all papers
