AP Chemistry Tutor

AP Chemistry is one of the most demanding AP courses because it combines a large body of content with a heavy emphasis on quantitative reasoning and written justification. The free-response section, in particular, requires students to explain their reasoning using particulate-level models, to interpret experimental data and to justify claims with evidence. Students who prepare with calculation-only practice tend to score a 3.

Mr. Ahmad’s AP Chemistry lessons follow the course and exam description unit by unit, practise the released FRQs with the official scoring guidelines, and give the maths of chemistry — logarithms, equilibrium algebra, thermodynamic calculations — the attention it needs. Lessons can run alongside the school course through the year or as an intensive review programme in the spring.

• Unit 1: Atomic structure and properties — moles, mass spectrometry, electron configuration, periodic trends
• Units 2–3: Compound structure and properties; intermolecular forces and properties — bonding, Lewis structures, VSEPR, solids, liquids, gases, solutions, spectroscopy
• Unit 4: Chemical reactions — net ionic equations, stoichiometry, titrations, reaction types
• Units 5–6: Kinetics and thermodynamics — rate laws, mechanisms, catalysis, enthalpy, Hess’s law, bond energies
• Units 7–8: Equilibrium; acids and bases — K expressions, ICE tables, Le Chatelier, solubility, pH, buffers, titration curves
• Unit 9: Applications of thermodynamics — entropy, Gibbs free energy, electrochemistry, galvanic and electrolytic cells
