IB Biology Tutor: SL and HL
One-to-one IB Biology tuition for Standard and Higher Level, taught by Mr. Ahmad. The current syllabus taught as processes and evidence, with the data skills and precise language that IB examiners reward. Online worldwide, or in person in Dubai.
The current IB Biology syllabus (first exams 2025) is organised around four themes and two levels of organisation, and the exams have moved decisively towards application: Paper 1B is entirely data-based, and Paper 2 expects students to analyse unfamiliar experiments, interpret graphs and construct explanations rather than recall paragraphs. HL adds depth across all four themes and a longer, more demanding Paper 2.
Mr. Ahmad’s IB Biology lessons teach the content as mechanisms, teach the data skills the papers now depend on — rates, percentages, statistical tests, error bars, experimental design — and practise written answers against IB mark schemes so the student learns the specific wording that earns marks. The mathematical side of biology is handled properly, which is a real advantage for HL students.
How IB Biology is assessed
- Paper 1A — multiple choice (30 questions SL / 40 HL). Paper 1B — data-based questions on experiments.
- Paper 2 — short-answer and extended-response questions across the whole syllabus (90 min SL / 150 min HL).
- Internal Assessment (20%) — a scientific investigation marked on research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation.
- Collaborative sciences project — required but not externally assessed.
Syllabus themes covered
- A. Unity and diversity — water, nucleic acids, origins of cells, cell structure, viruses (HL), diversity of organisms, classification, evolution and speciation, conservation of biodiversity
- B. Form and function — carbohydrates and lipids, proteins, membranes and transport, organelles, cell specialisation, gas exchange, transport, muscle and motility (HL), adaptation to environment, ecological niches
- C. Interaction and interdependence — enzymes and metabolism, cell respiration, photosynthesis, chemical signalling (HL), neural signalling, integration of body systems, defence against disease, populations and communities, transfers of energy and matter
- D. Continuity and change — DNA replication, protein synthesis, mutations and gene editing, cell and nuclear division, gene expression (HL), water potential, reproduction, inheritance, homeostasis, natural selection, sustainability and change, climate change
- Skills — microscopy and magnification, drawing, data processing, statistical tests (t-test, chi-squared), experimental design, evaluation
- IA — choosing an investigation, collecting and processing data, writing to the criteria
How Mr. Ahmad teaches IB Biology
- Content taught as processes and evidence, matching how Paper 2 now asks questions
- Data-based questions (Paper 1B) practised every week with unfamiliar experiments
- Written answers built from IB mark schemes so the wording is precise
- The statistics and calculations of biology taught properly, including error bars and significance tests
- IA support from research question to evaluation, keeping the work the student’s own
- Full timed papers and error analysis before the May or November session
Why students work with Mr. Ahmad
- 13+ years of one-to-one tutoring across British, IB, American, SABIS and Australian curricula
- Exam-focused: every lesson is built around what the mark scheme rewards, not just what the textbook says
- Online lessons that actually work: iPad and digital whiteboard on Zoom or Google Meet, so you see every line of working
- Lesson notes and worksheets after each session, so the student has something to revise from
- Flexible timing across time zones, including evenings and weekends
How lessons work
- Trial lesson at 50% off. A first full lesson at half price, to see where the student is and how we work together.
- Plan. We map the syllabus against the exam date and agree what to cover, in what order.
- Weekly lessons. One-to-one, usually 60 or 90 minutes, with homework set from past-paper questions.
- Exam run-in. Timed papers, mark-scheme review, and a checklist of the mistakes that cost marks.

Try a full lesson with Mr. Ahmad at half price before you commit to anything. It is a real lesson, not a sales call: bring a topic the student is stuck on and we will work through it together.
- Online from anywhere in the world, or in person across Dubai
- You get honest feedback on where the student stands and what to fix first
- No card, no contract — if it is not the right fit, that is fine

Frequently asked questions
Do you teach the new IB Biology syllabus?
Yes. Lessons follow the current syllabus (first assessment 2025), including the four themes, the Paper 1A/1B format and the revised IA criteria.
How different is HL from SL biology?
HL includes additional content in every theme (for example viruses, muscle and motility, chemical signalling, gene expression) and sits longer papers with more extended-response questions.
Can you help with the Biology IA?
Yes: choosing a realistic investigation, collecting and processing data with appropriate statistics, and writing the analysis and evaluation to the criteria.
Do you teach students at IB schools outside the UAE?
Yes. Most IB Biology students are taught online, across Europe, Asia and the Gulf, at times that fit their school day.
