IB Physics Tutor: SL and HL
One-to-one IB Physics tuition for Standard and Higher Level, taught by Mr. Ahmad. Concepts explained properly, maths handled confidently, and exam answers written the way the IB mark scheme rewards. Online for IB schools worldwide, or in person in Dubai.
IB Physics under the current syllabus (first exams 2025) is organised into five themes and assessed with a strong emphasis on data, explanation and the “nature of science”. Paper 1 combines multiple choice with data-based questions on unfamiliar experiments; Paper 2 has short and extended-response questions that expect students to explain, not just calculate. HL adds depth in every theme and longer, more demanding questions.
The students who do well are the ones who can move fluently between a concept, its equation and a graph, and who can write a three-line explanation with the precise physics vocabulary the examiner is looking for. That combination is what Mr. Ahmad’s IB Physics lessons train. Because he also teaches IB Maths, the mathematics that HL Physics quietly assumes — vectors, gradients, logarithms, simple calculus — never becomes the barrier.
How IB Physics is assessed
- Paper 1A — multiple choice (30 questions SL / 40 HL). Paper 1B — data-based questions on experiments.
- Paper 2 — short-answer and extended-response questions covering the whole syllabus (90 min SL / 150 min HL).
- Internal Assessment (20%) — a scientific investigation, marked on research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation.
- Collaborative sciences project — a required interdisciplinary project, not externally assessed.
- Calculator — allowed in all papers; the data booklet provides equations, so the exam tests understanding rather than recall.
Syllabus themes covered
- A. Space, time and motion — kinematics, forces and momentum, work, energy and power, rigid body mechanics (HL), Galilean and special relativity (HL)
- B. The particulate nature of matter — thermal energy transfers, greenhouse effect, gas laws, thermodynamics (HL), current and circuits
- C. Wave behaviour — simple harmonic motion, wave model, wave phenomena, standing waves and resonance, Doppler effect
- D. Fields — gravitational fields, electric and magnetic fields, motion in electromagnetic fields, induction (HL)
- E. Nuclear and quantum physics — structure of the atom, quantum physics (HL), radioactive decay, fission, fusion and stars
- Skills — uncertainties and errors, graphing, data analysis, experimental design, the tools and techniques the IB expects
How Mr. Ahmad teaches IB Physics
- Each theme taught through concept, equation and graph together, not as separate facts
- Explanation questions practised with model answers built from the IB mark scheme
- Data-based questions (Paper 1B) practised every week, since they are new to most students
- The maths of HL physics taught directly, including calculus where the syllabus needs it
- IA support from research question to evaluation, keeping the work the student’s own
- Full timed papers and error analysis before the May or November session
Why students work with Mr. Ahmad
- 13+ years of one-to-one tutoring across British, IB, American, SABIS and Australian curricula
- Exam-focused: every lesson is built around what the mark scheme rewards, not just what the textbook says
- Online lessons that actually work: iPad and digital whiteboard on Zoom or Google Meet, so you see every line of working
- Lesson notes and worksheets after each session, so the student has something to revise from
- Flexible timing across time zones, including evenings and weekends
How lessons work
- Trial lesson at 50% off. A first full lesson at half price, to see where the student is and how we work together.
- Plan. We map the syllabus against the exam date and agree what to cover, in what order.
- Weekly lessons. One-to-one, usually 60 or 90 minutes, with homework set from past-paper questions.
- Exam run-in. Timed papers, mark-scheme review, and a checklist of the mistakes that cost marks.

Try a full lesson with Mr. Ahmad at half price before you commit to anything. It is a real lesson, not a sales call: bring a topic the student is stuck on and we will work through it together.
- Online from anywhere in the world, or in person across Dubai
- You get honest feedback on where the student stands and what to fix first
- No card, no contract — if it is not the right fit, that is fine

Frequently asked questions
Do you teach the new IB Physics syllabus?
Yes. Lessons follow the current syllabus (first assessment 2025) with its five themes, Paper 1A/1B structure and the updated IA criteria.
Is HL physics much harder than SL?
HL adds significant content (rigid body mechanics, relativity, thermodynamics, induction, quantum physics) and longer papers. Students who are strong in maths usually cope well; students who are not benefit from the combined maths-and-physics approach.
Can you help with the Physics IA?
Yes. Mr. Ahmad helps students choose a realistic investigation, process their data with proper uncertainties, and write the analysis and evaluation to the criteria.
Do you teach students outside the UAE?
Yes. Most IB Physics students are taught online, across Europe, Asia and the Middle East, at times that fit their school day.
