A-Level Chemistry Tutor

One-to-one A-Level and AS Chemistry tuition for Edexcel, Cambridge International (9701), AQA and OCR A, taught by Mr. Ahmad. Online for students anywhere in the world, or in person in Dubai.

A-Level Chemistry is the subject that medicine, dentistry, veterinary science and most chemistry-related degrees insist on, and it is graded hard. The content is broad, the calculations are unforgiving (pH, Kp, Born-Haber cycles, rate equations), and organic synthesis and mechanisms require a level of precision that GCSE never asked for. Students who were strong at GCSE often find their first A-Level chemistry test a shock.

Mr. Ahmad’s A-Level Chemistry lessons rebuild the subject as a set of reliable methods and connected ideas. Physical chemistry calculations are drilled with exam questions from the student’s own board; organic chemistry is taught through mechanisms and reaction maps rather than lists; and the practical and data-analysis skills that appear across every paper are taught as core content. The aim is a student who can open any question on the paper and know what to do.

How A-Level Chemistry is assessed

  • Edexcel (9CH0) — Paper 1 (Advanced Inorganic and Physical), Paper 2 (Advanced Organic and Physical), Paper 3 (General and Practical Principles), plus the practical endorsement.
  • Cambridge International (9701) — multiple choice, AS structured questions and practical, A2 structured questions and a planning/analysis paper.
  • AQA (7405) — three 2-hour papers: inorganic and physical, organic and physical, and a synoptic paper with practical skills.
  • OCR A (H432) — periodic table, elements and physical chemistry; synthesis and analytical techniques; unified chemistry.

Syllabus topics covered

  • Physical chemistry — atomic structure, amount of substance, bonding, energetics and Born-Haber cycles, entropy and Gibbs energy, kinetics and rate equations, equilibrium (Kc, Kp), acids, bases and buffers, redox and electrochemical cells
  • Inorganic chemistry — periodicity, groups 2 and 7, transition metals and complex ions, reactions of ions in aqueous solution, qualitative analysis
  • Organic chemistry — alkanes, halogenoalkanes, alkenes, alcohols, carbonyls, carboxylic acids and derivatives, aromatic chemistry, amines, amino acids and polymers, synthesis routes
  • Mechanisms — free-radical substitution, nucleophilic substitution and addition, electrophilic addition and substitution, elimination, condensation
  • Analysis — mass spectrometry, infrared, NMR (1H and 13C), chromatography, combined spectral problems
  • Practical skills — titrations, uncertainties, rate and equilibrium experiments, organic preparation and purification, planning and evaluation

How Mr. Ahmad teaches A-Level Chemistry

  • Calculations drilled with board-specific exam questions until they are reliable under pressure
  • Organic chemistry taught through mechanisms and reaction maps, not memorised lists
  • Explanation questions written to the mark scheme, with the precise terminology examiners require
  • Spectral analysis problems practised as a specific skill
  • Practical and planning questions embedded throughout the course
  • Timed papers and error analysis from the spring term of Year 13, plus UCAT/BMAT-adjacent support for medical applicants

Why students work with Mr. Ahmad

  • 13+ years of one-to-one tutoring across British, IB, American, SABIS and Australian curricula
  • Exam-focused: every lesson is built around what the mark scheme rewards, not just what the textbook says
  • Online lessons that actually work: iPad and digital whiteboard on Zoom or Google Meet, so you see every line of working
  • Lesson notes and worksheets after each session, so the student has something to revise from
  • Flexible timing across time zones, including evenings and weekends

How lessons work

  1. Trial lesson at 50% off. A first full lesson at half price, to see where the student is and how we work together.
  2. Plan. We map the syllabus against the exam date and agree what to cover, in what order.
  3. Weekly lessons. One-to-one, usually 60 or 90 minutes, with homework set from past-paper questions.
  4. Exam run-in. Timed papers, mark-scheme review, and a checklist of the mistakes that cost marks.

    Frequently asked questions

    Which boards do you teach?

Edexcel, Cambridge International (9701), AQA and OCR A. Lessons use the student’s own specification and past papers.

Can you help with organic mechanisms?

Yes. Mechanisms are one of the most common reasons students seek an A-Level chemistry tutor, and they are taught by drawing, explaining and practising until curly arrows are automatic.

My child needs an A or A* for medicine. Is that realistic?

With a solid work ethic and enough time, yes. A-Level chemistry rewards systematic preparation, and lessons are planned backwards from the target grade and the exam date.

Do you teach students outside the UAE?

Yes. Online A-Level chemistry lessons run for students in the UK, Europe, Asia and across the Gulf.
