GCSE and IGCSE Maths Tutor

One-to-one maths tuition for GCSE (9–1) and IGCSE students on Edexcel, Cambridge and AQA, taught by Mr. Ahmad. From closing gaps in Year 10 to grade 8–9 exam preparation in Year 11.

GCSE and IGCSE Maths is the exam where students most often underperform relative to their ability. The content is wide rather than deep, so a student can know 80% of the syllabus and still lose a grade to the 20% they skipped. Papers also mix easy and hard questions, so time management and knowing which questions to leave are worth real marks.

Lessons with Mr. Ahmad start with a full topic audit against the student’s specification — Edexcel IGCSE (4MA1), Cambridge IGCSE (0580/0980), Edexcel GCSE (1MA1) or AQA (8300) — so nothing is left to chance. Weak topics are re-taught from first principles; strong topics are pushed to the grade 8–9 questions. Every lesson includes past-paper questions marked with the real mark scheme, so the student learns what examiners want to see.

How GCSE and IGCSE Maths are assessed

  • Edexcel IGCSE (4MA1) — two 2-hour papers, both with a calculator, Foundation or Higher tier.
  • Cambridge IGCSE (0580) — Core or Extended; from 2025 there is a non-calculator paper and a calculator paper.
  • GCSE 9–1 (Edexcel, AQA, OCR) — three 90-minute papers: Paper 1 non-calculator, Papers 2 and 3 with a calculator.
  • Grades — 9 to 1 (GCSE and Edexcel IGCSE) or A* to G (Cambridge IGCSE, some schools). Tier choice decides the maximum grade available.

Syllabus topics covered

  • Number — fractions, percentages, ratio, standard form, surds, bounds and error intervals
  • Algebra — expanding and factorising, quadratics, simultaneous equations, inequalities, sequences, functions, iteration, algebraic proof
  • Graphs — straight lines, quadratics and cubics, transformations, gradients and areas under curves
  • Geometry — angles, circle theorems, Pythagoras, trigonometry including the sine and cosine rules, vectors, transformations, constructions
  • Statistics and probability — averages, cumulative frequency, histograms, tree diagrams, conditional probability, Venn diagrams
  • Higher-only content — algebraic fractions, completing the square, exponential graphs, circle equations, vector proofs (and calculus / sets for Edexcel IGCSE)

How Mr. Ahmad teaches GCSE and IGCSE Maths

  • A topic-by-topic audit against the exact specification in the first two lessons
  • Re-teaching weak topics from the ground up rather than patching the symptoms
  • Mixed past-paper practice every lesson, because exams do not tell you which topic a question is from
  • Non-calculator arithmetic drills for GCSE Paper 1 and Cambridge Paper 1/2
  • Grade 8–9 problem-solving for strong students, including Further Maths and Additional Maths
  • A revision timetable for the final three months, built around full timed papers

    Frequently asked questions

    Which boards do you teach?

Edexcel IGCSE and GCSE, Cambridge IGCSE (Core and Extended), AQA and OCR GCSE. Most Dubai schools use Edexcel or Cambridge IGCSE; UK-based online students are usually on Edexcel or AQA GCSE.

Should my child take Foundation or Higher tier?

It depends on their current level and the grade they need. After a trial lesson Mr. Ahmad can give a clear recommendation, and if the aim is a grade 6 or above, Higher tier is normally the right choice.

Can you help with IGCSE Further Pure Maths or Additional Maths?

Yes. Both are excellent preparation for A-Level or IB HL and Mr. Ahmad teaches them regularly.

    How early should tuition start?

Ideally at the start of Year 10, so gaps are fixed before the content builds on them. Starting in Year 11 still works well; it just means a more intensive schedule.
